A Milestone in Rail Travel Convenience
Indian Railways has unveiled the much-anticipated RailOne app, an all‑in‑one “super‑app” that brings virtually every passenger-related railway service under one digital roof. Developed by the Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) and officially launched by Union Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw on July 1, 2025, during CRIS’s 40th Foundation Day, the app marks a significant leap toward modernizing rail travel in India.
Instead of juggling between half a dozen apps, IRCTC Rail Connect, UTS, NTES, Rail Madad, and Food on Track, passengers can now plan, book, track, order food, lodge grievances, and even arrange last-mile transport via a single, intuitive interface.
Unified Ticketing Across Types
One of RailOne’s core strengths is its ability to handle ticketing across all categories seamlessly. Reserve a long-distance ticket, grab an unreserved (general) one, or even book a platform or monthly/seasonal pass, all within the same app.
Indian Railways continues to use the IRCTC for reserved ticket processing, but RailOne is fully authorised to provide this as part of its unified service. What’s more, unreserved and platform tickets booked via RailOne come with a 3% discount, an incentive to reduce app-switching.
Track Every Step of Your Journey
Live train tracking has become a vital feature for Indian rail travellers, and RailOne delivers in full. Users can follow train locations in real-time, view expected delays, and access updated platform and coach position data, making boarding and transits substantially smoother.
Food, Fees, and Feedback, Sorted
Hungry on board? The app lets you order meals from vetted on-board caterers, connecting with IRCTC e-catering partners.
Rail Madad’s grievance redressal is integrated too, passengers can file tickets, track resolutions, or submit complaints directly via the app.
Booking cancellations? Refunds are processed through unified workflows, no more app hopping required.
Secure Payments with R‑Wallet
The R‑Wallet, a dedicated digital e-wallet for railway payments, is built into RailOne. It features secure mPIN and biometric authentication, and users enjoy a small perk: a 3% discount when using R‑Wallet for unreserved ticket payments.
One Login to Rule Them All
Forgo the login fatigue. RailOne supports single-sign-on with IRCTC RailConnect or UTS credentials, and also lets new users register quickly with minimal info and OTP via mobile. Secure login via biometrics or mPIN enhances convenience while maintaining security.
Simplified and Inclusive Design
The app’s UI is clean and intuitive, designed with first‑time rail travellers in mind. Multilingual support ensures accessibility across regional languages, and added features like porter booking and last-mile taxi services make it a comprehensive travel partner.
Building Toward a High‑Capacity Backend
The launch of RailOne dovetails with ambitious backend upgrades. By December 2025, Indian Railways plans to deploy a modern Passenger Reservation System (PRS) capable of handling 150,000 bookings per minute and 4 million enquiries per minute, alongside features like fare calendars, inclusive passenger services, and greater resilience.
To help with waitlist clarity, charts will now be prepared eight hours before departure (up from four), clearing up confusion and offering earlier confirmation. Starting July 1, only verified users (via Aadhaar or DigiLocker) can book Tatkal, aimed at reducing fraud and misuse.
Enjoying the Early Experience
What’s really exciting is that RailOne isn’t just a concept: it’s already earning praise. In fact, Reddit users who tested RailOne’s predecessor in beta said it was a “time saver” and “a life‑saver,” praising its coach position accuracy, even calling it, “one of the best apps I tried so far, even better when you consider this comes under Govt.”
Though some users note areas for continued refinement, like optimizing location permissions and refining Tatkal booking performance, feedback so far suggests that RailOne is on a winning trajectory.
Why RailOne Matters
By consolidating scattered railway functions, from ticketing and tracking to dining, refunds, feedback, and logistics, RailOne significantly reduces app clutter and login woes. It frees up storage space and mental cycles, making train travel more accessible to millions, including tech novices.
Practical perks such as reduced wait times, simplified boarding, and food delivery elevate the everyday experience, while secure payments and enhanced backend infrastructure boost reliability.
Looking Ahead
RailOne’s rollout signals a profound digital transformation for Indian Railways, shifting away from fragmented user experience toward seamless integration and enhanced capacity. With backend upgrades coming in December, and features like season passes, freight queries, and metro-ticketing in sight, this is only the beginning of a rail travel renaissance.
Final Take
For millions of Indians who rely on trains, whether daily commuters or thousands-of-kilometres voyagers, RailOne offers something they’ve long needed: a trusted, inclusive, and user-centric rail travel companion. By marrying convenience with cutting-edge infrastructure, it sets India’s railways on course to becoming truly world-class.
