Alstom, the French multinational corporation specializing in rolling stock manufacturing, has proudly announced the delivery of the first indigenously produced trainset for the Meerut Metro project to the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). This milestone is part of a significant contract signed in 2020, under which Alstom is tasked with supplying 210 cars for the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
The Meerut Metro, designed as an urban Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS), is set to span a 25-km route on Line-1, featuring both elevated (14.80 km) and underground (4.6 km) sections. This line will facilitate seamless travel between Partapur and Modipuram, incorporating 11 stations along its path. Notably, three of these stations will offer direct links to India’s pioneering RRTS, bridging Delhi and Meerut and significantly enhancing regional connectivity.
Alstom has committed to providing 30 coaches to service this line, arranged into 10 trainsets comprising three cars each. Olivier Loison, Alstom India’s Managing Director, expressed enthusiasm about the project, highlighting it as a progressive leap towards modernizing both intra and intercity rail travel in India. Alstom’s contribution of next-generation trainsets to the Meerut Metro project underscores the company’s dedication to advancing India’s urban transit infrastructure.
