Ananya Panday is stepping into the OTT world with the much-anticipated series Call Me Bae, where she takes on the role of Bella, a character that has already sparked comparisons to Kareena Kapoor Khan’s iconic portrayal of Poo from Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. While the comparison to Poo, a beloved character for generations, is inevitable, Ananya acknowledges the challenge but embraces it with enthusiasm. In an interview with Hindustan Times, she expressed admiration for Kareena’s portrayal and shared her hope that Bella will resonate with audiences as Poo did.
For Ananya, Poo was more than just a memorable character; she was a source of inspiration, boosting her self-confidence. “If Bella can do that for so many young girls and boys out there, that’ll be a huge achievement,” Ananya said, hinting at her desire for Bella to have the same impact on viewers.
Call Me Bae features Bella’s journey from being a wealthy heiress to discovering herself and forging her own path in a world filled with challenges. The series, which explores themes of resilience, self-discovery, and individuality, has already generated a buzz with its trailer, showing Bella’s transformation. Ananya, who is celebrating her fifth year in Bollywood, sees Call Me Bae as a milestone in her career, marking her foray into OTT content and expanding her acting repertoire.
Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatic Entertainment and directed by Collin D’Cunha, the series also stars Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, and Vihaan Samat. Fans are eagerly awaiting its release on September 6, 2024, to see how Ananya brings Bella to life and whether her portrayal can create a lasting cultural impact, much like Kareena Kapoor’s Poo.
