AR Rahman, the renowned musician, recently addressed the controversy surrounding his use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to recreate the voices of the late singers Bamba Bakya and Shahul Hameed for a song in Rajinikanth’s film “Lal Salaam.” Amidst criticism, Rahman defended his decision, highlighting the potential of technology to enhance lives and improve productivity in the music industry. In an interview with India Today at “The Goat Life” music launch event, Rahman emphasized that AI could be leveraged to uplift society, streamline educational processes, and foster talent in arts and science without replacing human jobs.
Rahman elaborated on the necessity of using AI cautiously to ensure it fills gaps and accelerates processes rather than leading to job losses. He advocates for AI to serve as a tool to enhance creative endeavors and operational efficiency, stressing the importance of securing consent and providing fair compensation to the families of the artists whose voices were digitally reproduced. His statement comes as a reassurance that technology, when used responsibly, can coexist with artistic integrity and contribute to the evolution of the music industry.
