Summary:

  • BSF Intervention: The Border Security Force (BSF) halted the construction of an illegal bunker by Border Guards Bangladesh (BGB) near the Indo-Bangladesh border in north Bengal.
  • Border Disputes: Tensions between the two forces have escalated since August 5, with ongoing disagreements over construction projects and jurisdictional issues.
  • Illegal Activities: BSF has reported multiple instances of unauthorized construction and seized drugs and arms from underground bunkers near the border.

The Border Security Force (BSF) successfully stopped the Border Guards Banglade sh (BGB) from illegally constructing a bunker near the Indo-Bangladesh border in north Bengal, police officials reported on Friday.

A senior BSF officer stated that on January 31, the BGB was er ecting a sentry post bunker in the Dahagram Angarpota area, just 150 yards from the international border, when BSF personnel intervened. Additionally, locals were prevented from constructing another unauthorized structure in the same area.

To address the issue, the BSF has called for a flag meeting at the commandant level, emphasizing concerns over illegal constructions by Bangladesh along various border points.

Since August 5, following the ousting of former Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, tensions have risen between the two forces regarding border construction, attacks on BSF personnel, and jurisdiction disputes. The BGB has reportedly refused to honor construction agreements established during Hasina’s tenure, including a long-planned border fence project in Sukdevpur village.

BSF officials have observed repeated attempts by the BGB to construct illegal bunkers along the border. In response, the BSF has conducted multiple raids, uncovering underground bunkers containing drugs and arms. Just last week, Bangladeshi citizens attempted to construct unauthorized houses near the border in the Jhikabari area of Kuchlibari, Cooch Behar, under the observation of BGB personnel.

Conclusion:

The escalating border tensions highlight the importance of strict enforcement of international agreements to prevent unauthorized constructions. The BSF’s firm stance aims to uphold border security while ensuring that all developments comply with mutually agreed-upon regulations.
