In a pointed critique of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) decision to re-induct former minister and MLA Gali Janardhan Reddy, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has taken to social media to voice her disapproval. Through her post on X, Priyanka Gandhi highlighted the controversial background of Janardhan Reddy, noting his involvement in a Rs 35,000 crore scam and the numerous cases, including those by the CBI, pending against him. She pointedly remarked on the allegations against him, including environmental degradation and attempts to influence judicial processes through bribery.
Priyanka Gandhi accused the BJP of hypocrisy, stating that the party’s act of welcoming Reddy with open arms is emblematic of a broader practice of absolving corrupt individuals, so long as they join the BJP. She employed the metaphor of a “washing machine” to describe how the party purportedly cleanses the reputations of such figures. The Congress leader further criticized the BJP for its treatment of another political figure, Praful Patel, suggesting that the CBI’s recent closure report on a case involving him is indicative of a pattern of protecting allies while targeting opposition figures.
She alleged that the central government is using state agencies to shield corrupt members within its ranks while simultaneously harassing and undermining opposition leaders through fabricated cases and financial sanctions. This, she asserted, reflects a deliberate strategy to weaken the opposition and consolidate power.
The remarks from Priyanka Gandhi Vadra come amidst broader political discussions and critique of the BJP’s alliances and the perceived misuse of power. Former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai’s comment that Janardhan Reddy’s return adds strength to the BJP only serves to further fuel the controversy and debate over political integrity and the role of central agencies in Indian politics.
