The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has launched a scathing attack on the Congress party, accusing it of chanting ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans outside the Karnataka assembly. This incident, according to BJP national spokesperson Gaurav Bhatia, not only tarnishes India’s democratic ethos but also exposes the Congress party’s purportedly anti-national tendencies.
During a press briefing, Bhatia expressed deep concern over the incident, which allegedly occurred in the wake of Congress MP-elect Syed Naseer Hussain’s Rajya Sabha election victory. “This act of chanting slogans in favor of Pakistan is an outright insult to our democracy,” Bhatia remarked, demanding an apology from Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The BJP’s allegations stem from a complaint that claims Hussain’s supporters, upon his election announcement, engaged in pro-Pakistan sloganeering at the Vidhana Soudha premises. Bhatia further criticized the Congress, suggesting a pattern of behavior that aligns with anti-national sentiments, referencing past incidents where controversial slogans were raised in the presence of Congress leaders.
In response, the Congress has denied these allegations, insisting that the slogans were in support of Hussain and not in favor of Pakistan as claimed by the BJP. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara have both stated that the matter is being taken seriously, with voice samples sent to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for verification. Siddaramaiah assured that if the allegations are proven, stringent action will be taken against those responsible.
This incident has sparked a political firestorm, with the BJP labeling the Congress as anti-national and demanding accountability. The Congress, on the other hand, awaits the FSL report, ready to address the situation based on its findings. As the controversy unfolds, the focus remains on the implications of such allegations on the political landscape and the integrity of India’s democratic institutions.
