Is India Being Divided for Political Gains?

During his visit to Rae Bareli, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi strongly criticized the ruling BJP government, accusing it of diverting attention from pressing public issues like inflation and labor rights. He argued that a country filled with hate can never truly develop. Speaking at a public event, he stressed that India has always been a land of love and unity and should remain so.

Gandhi questioned the role of mainstream media, claiming they prioritize covering billionaire weddings and luxury lifestyles over real issues like farmer struggles and economic hardships. He pointed out that the media, which should act as a watchdog, is instead serving the interests of powerful industrialists linked to the government. According to him, their silence on the struggles of common citizens is a sign of their compromised integrity.

During his speech, Gandhi also paid tribute to historic freedom fighters like Rana Beni Madhav Singh and Beera Paasi, emphasizing their fight for India’s Constitution. He reminded the crowd that great leaders such as Mahatma Gandhi, B.R. Ambedkar, and Jawaharlal Nehru gave the country a Constitution that protects the voice of the poor, farmers, and laborers. He urged both political parties and the media to protect the democratic values enshrined in it, rather than allowing the country’s resources to be sold to private corporations.

Can India Unite Amid Rising Division?

Referring to his Bharat Jodo Yatra, Gandhi reiterated that a nation divided by religion, caste, and language cannot move forward. He emphasized that the yatra, covering 4,000 kilometers from Kanyakumari to Kashmir, was a message of harmony and unity. He urged people to stand against forces that seek to divide the country for political gains.

He also criticized the BJP for focusing on benefiting the wealthy while ignoring the struggles of the common people. According to him, vital national assets like airports, ports, and railways are being sold to private hands while inflation soars and the working class suffers. He reaffirmed his commitment to fighting against these issues, regardless of media support.

Meanwhile, controversy arose as some BJP workers claimed they were placed under house arrest during Gandhi’s visit. BJP leader Pravesh Verma alleged that he and 25 others were confined to a local office, questioning whether an elected MP should focus on uniting people rather than political standoffs.

As Gandhi concluded his visit with a temple stop and meetings with Congress workers, his speech left behind a crucial question: Can India progress by rejecting hate and embracing love, or will political division continue to shape the nation’s future?
