In a significant development, Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra has been summoned by the Delhi High Court regarding a defamation lawsuit brought against her by her former partner, advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai. The court has mandated Moitra to submit her response to the allegations by April 1, with the next hearing scheduled for April 8.
The legal proceedings stem from Dehadrai’s claims of defamation, highlighting a series of purportedly abusive and defamatory remarks made by Moitra across various media platforms, including electronic and social media. These statements notably accused Dehadrai of being “jobless” and “jilted.” As part of his lawsuit, Dehadrai seeks not only an injunction against Moitra but also damages amounting to Rs. 2,00,00,100.
In addition to targeting Moitra, Dehadrai’s legal action also involves prominent media outlets such as India Today, CNN News, Telegraph, Guardian, and Gulf News. The lawsuit underscores the escalating legal and personal dispute between Moitra and Dehadrai, drawing attention to the broader implications of defamation in the realm of public discourse and media representation. The outcome of this case could have significant ramifications for both parties involved and serves as a critical examination of defamation law in the context of political and personal allegations.
