In a disturbing incident from Delhi’s Shakarpur area, a 30-year-old man, Karan, was arrested for installing spy cameras in his tenant’s washroom and bedroom. The victim, a civil service aspirant, discovered the scheme when unusual activity on her WhatsApp revealed the breach.
How It Unfolded
The woman used to leave her house keys with Karan, the son of her landlord, whenever she traveled out of town. Taking advantage of her absence, Karan allegedly installed spy cameras in the washroom and bedroom by hiding them in bulb holders.
The woman’s suspicion was aroused when she noticed her WhatsApp account was logged into an unknown laptop. She immediately logged out of the device but soon realized she was being watched. Upon advice, she checked her linked devices and confirmed unauthorized access.
Discovery and Police Action
Alarmed by her discovery, the woman inspected her flat and found the first hidden camera in the bulb holder of her washroom. She quickly contacted the police, who found another camera in her bedroom. The police arrested Karan after interrogating him.
Karan’s Confession
During questioning, Karan admitted that he installed the cameras three months prior, taking advantage of her absence. He had purchased three spy cameras from an electronics market and installed two of them in her flat. Since these cameras couldn’t be accessed online, Karan persistently asked for the keys to her flat, pretending to fix electrical issues, in order to transfer the recorded videos to his laptop.
Evidence and Arrest
The police recovered the spy cameras, two laptops, and other incriminating material from Karan’s possession. He has been arrested and is currently under investigation.
This incident raises serious concerns about privacy and the dangers of hidden surveillance, particularly in rental accommodations.
