The stage is set for the Election Commission of India to announce the polling dates for the much-anticipated Lok Sabha Election 2024. As political parties brace for the electoral battle, a recent Mega Opinion Poll conducted by Network18 has forecasted a sweeping victory for the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The survey, which ran from February 12 to March 1 across 21 states, projects an impressive tally of 411 seats out of 543 for the NDA, including a historic 350 seats for the BJP alone.
The poll suggests a significant advantage for the NDA in crucial regions such as the Hindi heartland, Karnataka, Gujarat, Odisha, West Bengal, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh, with unexpected gains in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. The allies within the NDA, including the Janata Dal (United) and Telugu Desam Party, are anticipated to contribute 61 seats to the coalition’s massive win.
Contrastingly, the opposition bloc, INDIA, which comprises major non-BJP parties like the Congress, is predicted to secure 105 seats in total. The Congress party, facing a potential setback, is expected to win only 49 seats, marking its second-worst performance in the history of Lok Sabha elections.
The ‘Others’ category, encompassing parties such as AIADMK, BSP, BRS, BJD, and YSRCP, is estimated to win around 27 seats. With the NDA projected to capture nearly half of the total votes, the outcome of this opinion poll highlights the shifting dynamics in Indian politics. The methodology behind the survey involved conducting face-to-face interviews with randomly selected households, covering 518 Lok Sabha constituencies, offering a glimpse into the electoral mood of the nation as it gears up for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
