In a major political move ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) announced its fifth slate of candidates on Sunday, introducing a mix of seasoned politicians, celebrities, and new entrants to the electoral arena. The list of 111 candidates features notable names such as Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut, set to contest from Mandi, and Arun Govil, beloved for his portrayal of Lord Ram in the iconic television series ‘Ramayan,’ who has been given the ticket from Meerut. Adding to the star-studded lineup, Sita Soren, recently inducted into the party, will run from Dumka, while veterans like Maneka Gandhi and Agnimitra Paul are set to contest from Sultanpur and Mednipur, respectively.
In a strategic move, the BJP has positioned K Surendran to challenge Congress heavyweight Rahul Gandhi in Wayanad, signaling the party’s intent to make inroads into traditionally strong Congress territories.
The party ranks also swelled with the addition of former Indian Air Force Chief, RKS Bhadauria, who was warmly welcomed into the fold by BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde. Tawde praised Bhadauria’s illustrious career in the IAF and expressed optimism about his future contributions to the party and the nation’s political landscape.
Amidst this electoral buzz, the AAP signaled its readiness to confront the BJP, with leader Gopal Rai criticizing the recent arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. In a defiant response, Rai announced that the opposition INDIA bloc will organize a massive rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan on March 31. Dubbed a “maha rally,” this event aims to unite voices against what the bloc perceives as attacks on the country’s democratic framework and to champion the safeguarding of national interests.
As political parties ramp up their campaigns, the stage is set for a fiercely contested battle for the Lok Sabha in 2024, with every move and countermove closely watched by the nation.
