Latest Developments
In the ongoing investigation into the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, the Mumbai police have arrested five more suspects. This brings the total number of arrests to nine. The individuals were apprehended following police raids in Karjat, Dombivli, and Navi Mumbai based on specific intelligence.
The suspects were presented before a Metropolitan Magistrate court in Mumbai and have been remanded to police custody until October 25. According to the police, these five individuals were reportedly in contact with the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang, which is suspected to be behind the assassination of Baba Siddique.
Background of the Case
Baba Siddique, a 66-year-old former Congress leader who recently joined the Ajit Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party, was gunned down by three assailants outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Nirmal Nagar, Mumbai, on October 12.
Among those previously arrested are Gurmail Baljit Singh (23), Dharmaraj Rajesh Kashyap (19), and Harishkumar Balakram Nisad (23), who are believed to have been the shooters. Additionally, Pune native Pravin Lonkar, a co-conspirator, was taken into custody. It is suspected that Pravin Lonkar’s brother, Shubham Lonkar, who is currently absconding, made a Facebook post claiming the Lawrence Bishnoi gang’s involvement in the murder.
Weapons Seized
The police have recovered three weapons – an Australian-made Glock pistol, a Turkish pistol, and a country-made firearm. These have been sent to a forensic laboratory to determine whether they match the bullets retrieved from Baba Siddique’s body.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation is ongoing, with authorities continuing to search for Shubham Lonkar, who was previously questioned in connection with a shooting outside actor Salman Khan’s residence. The murder of Baba Siddique has raised serious concerns about the potential reach of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang in Mumbai.
