In a significant political and development-oriented move, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently made headlines with his visit to Chandikhol, in the Jajpur district of Odisha, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for development projects totaling an impressive Rs 20,000 crore. But beyond the sheer scale of the investment, the visit was notable for the warm interaction between PM Modi and Odisha’s Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, showcasing a collaborative spirit that transcends political lines for the sake of state development.
According to reports, PM Modi’s visit was not just about the pomp of inaugurating projects; it was a testament to the central government’s commitment to pushing forward on stalled projects and stimulating industrial activity in the region. The Prime Minister didn’t shy away from critiquing past administrations for their lethargy in project completion, making a stark comparison with the efforts post-2014, highlighting projects like the Paradip Refinery, which had been pending since 2002, as symbols of this newfound efficiency.
The array of projects inaugurated spanned diverse sectors, including petroleum, natural gas, atomic energy, roadways, railways, and connectivity, each earmarked as a catalyst for regional development. Notably, PM Modi inaugurated a 0.6 MMTPA LPG Import facility at Paradip and an Indian Oil Corporation Limited Mono Ethylene Glycol project, poised to revolutionize the polyester industry in Eastern India. Moreover, the initiation of a new train service between Puri and Anand Vihar, and the first passenger train service on the Haridaspur–Paradip rail route, were steps towards enhancing connectivity and boosting local economies.
CM Naveen Patnaik’s response to these initiatives was one of gratitude and optimism. He praised PM Modi for setting a new growth trajectory for the Indian economy, positioning it on the path to becoming the third-largest globally. Patnaik’s request for continued cooperation from the Prime Minister reflects a partnership that is keenly focused on Odisha’s development aspirations, envisioning the state as a future manufacturing hub in East India. This sentiment was further echoed in Patnaik’s appeal for support in his mission to achieve more for the 4.5 crore people of Odisha, underlining a shared commitment to the state’s progress.
The exchange of pleasantries, including the presentation of a painting of Lord Jagannath to the Prime Minister, and the joint tribute to the legendary leader Biju Patnaik, added a personal touch to the official proceedings, symbolizing the deep-rooted cultural pride of Odisha.
