On the auspicious occasion of celebrating Handloom Week, the Hon’ble Minister of Textiles, Government of India, Shri Giriraj Singh, along with the esteemed presence of Shri Pabitra Margherita, Hon’ble Minister of State for Textiles, Government of India, inaugurated the Textile Gallery II on 08 August 2024 at 07:30 PM at the National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy, New Delhi.
The inaugural ceremony was graced by the Secretary (Textiles) and other senior delegates and officers from the Ministry of Textiles, as well as representatives from NID, NIFT, FDCI, CCIC, EPCH, NHDC, and other related organizations. Renowned designers and stakeholders, including Padmabhushan Shri Rajiv Sethi, Shri JJ Valaya, Shri Rajesh Pratap Singh, Ms. Anju Modi, Ms. Payal Jain, Shri Kevin Negli, and others associated with the handicrafts and handloom sector, also attended the event.
As part of the Government’s initiative, supported by Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), the Ministry of Textiles has set up a new Textile Gallery at the National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy under the ‘100 Days Program FY 2024-25’. The gallery was conceptualized and curated to preserve and promote India’s rich cultural heritage, in association with Shri Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI, and Dr. Jyotindra Jain, former Senior Director of the Crafts Museum.
About the Textile Gallery:
The gallery features a stunning display of approximately 150 objects, showcased in various styles and techniques under seven distinct categories:
- A) Embroideries
- B) Block Prints & Resist Dyed Fabrics
- C) Brocaded Fabrics from different regions of India
- D) Kalamkari
- E) Sarees – The Backbone of India
- F) Weaves of India
- G) Works of Vishwakarma Artisans – Revival for Indian Textiles
A special segment in the new gallery is dedicated to sustainability, featuring an exquisite display by designer Payal Jain. This segment highlights the innovation and creativity within the Indian textile industry while emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices.
