India on Wednesday voiced concern over the renewed Israeli bombardment of Gaza, calling for the release of all hostages and the uninterrupted supply of humanitarian aid to the region.
India’s Statement on the Crisis
In a brief statement, India’s External Affairs Ministry stated:
“We are concerned at the situation in Gaza.”
“It is important that all hostages are released.”
“We also call for the supply of humanitarian assistance to the people of Gaza to be sustained.”
Israel Resumes Attacks, Citing Lack of Progress in Ceasefire Talks
Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to implement the second phase of a previously agreed ceasefire with Hamas.
Since Israel resumed attacks early Tuesday, over 430 Palestinians, including 183 children, have been killed.
Netanyahu stated the bombardment is “only the beginning” and that future negotiations would take place “under fire.”
Hamas and the Ongoing Conflict
Hamas, which initiated the conflict with its October 2023 attacks on Israel, has maintained that it is open to negotiations but does not see the need for a new ceasefire agreement.
Gaza’s government media office reports a death toll exceeding 61,700, with thousands missing under rubble.
The attacks by Hamas in October 2023 resulted in 1,100 Israeli deaths.
Protests and Political Tensions in Israel
Mass protests erupted in Jerusalem on Wednesday, opposing Netanyahu’s decision to resume attacks.
Netanyahu’s alleged plan to fire Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar has sparked further tensions between the government and Israel’s internal security agency.
India’s Stance on the Conflict
Calls for a return to diplomacy and dialogue for a two-state solution.
Condemns terrorism in all forms.
Advocates for sustained humanitarian assistance for Gaza’s civilians.
As the crisis deepens, international pressure continues to mount on both sides to halt the violence and resume peace efforts.
