- Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut claims RSS is preparing to pick PM Modi’s successor.
- He alleges that Modi will step down at 75, following BJP’s unofficial retirement rule.
- The Prime Minister’s recent visit to the RSS headquarters in Nagpur has fueled speculation.
Is Modi Planning to Retire?
Sanjay Raut stirred controversy by asserting that PM Modi’s visit to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) headquarters was linked to his retirement discussions. He suggested that the RSS leadership, including Mohan Bhagwat, is pushing for a change in the country’s leadership and will play a key role in selecting the next Prime Minister.
According to Raut, Modi’s departure aligns with the BJP’s unwritten rule of leaders stepping down at 75. He further hinted that the next leader could be from Maharashtra, strengthening RSS’s influence in national politics. However, the BJP has not made any official statement regarding this claim.
What Does This Mean for Indian Politics?
While Raut’s remarks have fueled speculation, RSS member Seshadri Chari dismissed any rift between the RSS and BJP, calling Modi’s visit “historic.” PM Modi’s visit coincided with Varsha Pratipada, marking the birth anniversary of RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar. He was accompanied by key leaders like RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, Nitin Gadkari, and Devendra Fadnavis.
With the 2024 general elections approaching, such statements add to the political drama. Whether Modi will step down or seek another term remains a question, but the RSS’s role in shaping BJP’s future leadership is under the spotlight.
