Jobs Take Center Stage in Bihar’s Electoral Battle
As Bihar inches closer to the high-octane 2025 Assembly elections, one issue dominates the political discourse—jobs. From fiery rallies to social media wars, every major party is banking on employment promises to sway voters, turning unemployment and migration into the ultimate election plank.
Tejashwi’s “Rights, Jobs, Development” Gambit
RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav has sharpened his attack on the ruling NDA, framing Bihar’s job crisis as a “20-year failure” of Nitish Kumar and the BJP. At the Jan Vishwas Maha Rally in Patna, he declared, “Give us 20 months, and we’ll deliver what the NDA couldn’t in 20 years.”
The RJD’s manifesto includes 10 lakh government jobs, an unemployment allowance, and a domicile-based hiring policy—a direct appeal to Bihar’s youth, who often migrate to other states for work. “No Bihari should have to leave home for employment,” Tejashwi reiterated recently, positioning his party as the antidote to NDA’s “empty promises.”
Nitish Strikes Back: “12 Lakh Jobs and Counting”
Not one to be outdone, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has rolled out a flurry of schemes to counter the Opposition’s narrative. In July, his government launched CM-PRAATYAY, offering stipends to 1 lakh interns, and approved the Bihar Youth Commission to push local hiring and skill development.
Nitish’s boldest claim? “12 lakh government jobs already delivered, with 1 crore more targeted by 2030.” A high-level committee is being formed to drive this mission, combining public and private sector efforts. Additionally, the Renewable Energy Policy 2025 aims to generate 1.25 lakh green jobs, while industrial policies have reportedly attracted Rs 84,000 crore in committed investments, including giants like Adani and Coca-Cola.
Opposition Unconvinced: “Copycat Governance”
The RJD remains skeptical, dismissing Nitish’s announcements as “last-minute gimmicks after 17 years of inaction.” “Bihar’s youth want real jobs, not drama,” Tejashwi shot back. Congress, too, has joined the chorus, launching the “Naukri Do Ya Satta Chhodo” yatra, demanding the filling of 5 lakh pending vacancies with equal pay guarantees.
Meanwhile, the BJP has doubled down on its “10 lakh jobs delivered” claim, mocking the RJD’s pledges as “populist jumlas.”
The Verdict? Voters Will Decide
With unemployment now at the heart of Bihar’s political battlefield, the 2025 elections could hinge on who voters trust more—Tejashwi’s ambitious guarantees or Nitish’s track record. One thing is certain: Bihar’s youth, tired of empty rhetoric, will demand results.
