Will ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Hit the Rs 600 Crore Mark Soon?
The sci-fi action film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’, featuring Prabhas and Deepika Padukone, is on the verge of crossing the Rs 600 crore mark at the Indian box office. After raking in Rs 414.85 crore in its first week and Rs 125.50 crore in its second week, the film’s total earnings have soared thanks to a 32% increase in daily collections on Tuesday.
According to the film trade portal Sacnilk, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ amassed Rs 6 crore on its third Friday, Rs 14.35 crore on its third Saturday, Rs 16.45 crore on its third Sunday, Rs 3.85 crore on its third Monday, and Rs 5.01 crore on its third Tuesday, bringing its total Indian box office collections to Rs 589.1 crore.
Why Are ‘Indian 2’ and ‘Sarfira’ Struggling?
The impressive performance of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ can be partly attributed to the disappointing showings of Kamal Haasan’s ‘Indian 2’ and Akshay Kumar’s ‘Sarfira’. Both films opened to negative word of mouth and have struggled to attract audiences.
‘Indian 2’, directed by Shankar, logged low occupancy rates with 15.88% for its Tamil shows, 14.61% for its Telugu shows, and just 10.47% for its Hindi shows on Tuesday. The film managed to earn around Rs 3 crore on its fifth day, crossing Rs 65 crore within the first five days of its release.
‘Sarfira’ also continued to perform poorly at the box office, with its Hindi shows logging an occupancy of 13.61%. The film made less than Rs 2 crore on its second consecutive day and remained below Rs 20 crore by its first Tuesday, earning around Rs 15.20 crore within the first five days of its release. Critics and audiences alike have slammed ‘Indian 2’ for being illogical and tacky, while ‘Sarfira’, a remake of the hit film ‘Soorarai Pottru’, received flak partly because the original’s Hindi dubbed version, ‘Udaan’, is available on Amazon Prime Video.
What Makes ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ Stand Out?
Directed and written by Nag Ashwin, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ tells the story of Bhairava, a bounty hunter aiming to make it big in the Complex. The film boasts an impressive cast including Prabhas, Deepika Padukone, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Disha Patani, Brahmanandam, Vijay Deverakonda, and Dulquer Salmaan. Released worldwide on June 27, the film has captivated audiences with its engaging plot and stellar performances.
In conclusion, ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ is on track to reach a significant box office milestone, driven by strong audience reception and the lackluster performance of competing films. As it nears the Rs 600 crore mark, it stands as a testament to the appeal of its star-studded cast and compelling narrative.
