Kamala Harris has experienced a significant drop in polling just ahead of her upcoming debate with Donald Trump. According to the New York Times/Sienna poll, Trump is now leading Harris by 48 percent to 47 percent, signaling the end of what some are calling her “honeymoon period” after a positive surge in August. This comes as a surprise following Harris’s rise in support after taking Joe Biden’s place at the top of the Democratic ticket.
The poll highlights a tight race, with Harris losing ground among key voter demographics, including women, young voters, and Latino voters. Her upcoming 90-minute debate with Trump on September 10 is being seen as a pivotal moment for her campaign, especially as 28 percent of voters have expressed a desire to learn more about her proposals. In contrast, only 9 percent of voters indicated they wanted to know more about Trump.
Election data expert Nate Silver emphasized the importance of this debate for Harris, noting that it could change the course of the race if she performs well. Trump’s camp, however, is confident, with spokesperson Jason Miller stating, “The honeymoon is officially over.”
