Maruti Suzuki, India’s leading automaker, is set to make a significant entry into the electric vehicle (EV) market with its first-ever EV, the eVX, by 2025. The Hindu Business Line reports that this pioneering EV will be launched through NEXA, Maruti Suzuki’s premium and luxury sales channel, underscoring the company’s commitment to blending innovation with sophistication.
The eVX, engineered by Suzuki Motor Corporation in Japan, is designed to revolutionize the electric SUV segment with its impressive 60kWh battery pack, promising an unparalleled range of up to 550 km on a single charge. Maruti Suzuki’s ambition doesn’t stop at dominating the Indian market; plans are afoot to export the eVX as a made-in-India marvel to discerning markets in Europe and Japan.
Shashank Srivastava, Senior Executive Officer, Marketing and Sales at Maruti Suzuki India, highlighted the strategic launch of the electric SUV through NEXA, reflecting the brand’s premium positioning. With an indomitable presence in the non-SUV market, boasting a 65% market share, Maruti Suzuki is now gearing up to replicate its success in the SUV domain, aiming for a 50% market share.
Recent launches like Jimny, Fronx, Brezza, and Grand Vitara have already boosted the company’s SUV market share to approximately 22%, marking a significant leap from last year’s 10.5%. The SUV segment’s rapid growth has not gone unnoticed, with Maruti Suzuki keen on further capitalizing on this trend while maintaining its stronghold in other vehicle categories.
NEXA, established in 2015, represents Maruti Suzuki’s venture into premium retailing, housing high-end models and serving over 1 million customers across 200 towns and cities in India. The launch of eVX through NEXA is poised to set a new benchmark for electric mobility in India, marrying environmental consciousness with luxury and performance. As the countdown to 2025 begins, the auto industry and consumers alike are keenly awaiting Maruti Suzuki’s electric debut, set to electrify the roads and reinforce the brand’s leadership in the evolving automotive landscape.
