Mysterious Death of Rosneft Heir Ivan Sechin

Ivan Sechin, the 35-year-old son of Igor Sechin, a key Putin ally and head of the oil giant Rosneft, has died under mysterious circumstances in an elite village near Moscow. His death, initially kept under wraps for two weeks, has now come to light, sparking intrigue and speculation. Ivan Sechin’s passing adds to the growing list of unexplained deaths linked to Russia’s energy sector since the onset of the conflict in Ukraine.

According to the Daily Mail, Ivan’s cause of death was reported as ‘a detached blood clot,’ eerily reminiscent of the explanation given for the demise of Putin critic Alexei Navalny. This event occurs amidst rumors of significant personnel shifts following Putin’s anticipated victory in the upcoming presidential elections for his sixth term.

Ivan died in the Europe-1 village in Krasnogorsk, a location known to be frequented by Putin’s close associates. Reports from the Russian Telegram channel VChK-OGPU detail Ivan’s sudden complaints of suffocation in the early hours of February 5, leading to his immediate collapse and subsequent death despite attempts at resuscitation.

Ivan Sechin, who had a background in offshore project management and accompanied his father on international visits, was buried three days after his death. A Moscow State University alumnus, Ivan previously worked at Gazprombank before joining Rosneft. His father, Igor Sechin, reportedly intervened to prevent Russian authorities and security forces from probing into the death, instead directing Rosneft’s Security Service to conduct the investigation. Ivan had been honored by Putin with the Order for Service to the Fatherland at the age of 26, highlighting his prominence within Russia’s elite circles.
