The Guwahati Theatre Society made a stellar debut on Assam’s cultural scene with the premiere of Sarkari Investigator, an Assamese adaptation of Nikolai Gogol’s The Government Inspector. Held at the Shri Shri Madhavdeva International Auditorium at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra, the event drew a crowd of over 250 theatre enthusiasts who applauded the engaging mix of humor and social commentary.
A Bold Adaptation by a Seasoned Director
Directed by Gayatri Sharma, President of the Guwahati Theatre Society and a veteran of the national and international theatre scene, the play delivered a satirical critique of corruption. Known for her work at prestigious platforms like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Sharma’s vision brought a timeless theme to life with contemporary relevance.
Speaking about the production’s intent, Sharma remarked, “Sarkari Investigator addresses corruption, a subject that transcends time and place. We wanted to entertain while sparking meaningful dialogue about the societal issues we all face.”
