On a serene Saturday morning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi found himself amidst the lush greenery and tranquil landscapes of Assam’s Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve, embarking on a journey that was both a safari adventure and a heartwarming interaction with nature. In a moment that blended leadership with a touch of the everyday, the Prime Minister enjoyed the simple joy of feeding sugar cane to the park’s gentle giants, elephants Lakhimai, Pradyumna, and Phoolmai, under the vast expanse of Kaziranga’s skies.
His adventure began with an elephant safari through the Mihimukh area of the Central Kohora Range, offering him an up-close view of the park’s diverse ecosystem from the unique vantage point atop one of nature’s most majestic creatures. The journey continued with a jeep safari, allowing the Prime Minister to further immerse himself in the unparalleled beauty of Kaziranga, a sentiment he eagerly shared with the world through pictures on social media.
Accompanied by park director Sonali Ghosh and a team of senior forest officials, PM Modi’s visit wasn’t just about witnessing the park’s wildlife but understanding the intricate balance of this ecosystem. Kaziranga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is not only the home to the iconic Great Indian one-horned rhinoceros but also shelters a large number of elephants, along with various other species that thrive in its dense forests, elephant grass, marshes, and shallow pools. This sanctuary stands as a testament to the untouched natural beauty of eastern India.
PM Modi’s visit to Kaziranga was part of a two-day state visit, during which he also had a packed schedule with significant engagements focused on the development of the North East. Following his visit to the national park, he was set to participate in the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit North East’ programme in Itanagar, dedicating the Sela Tunnel to the nation and launching the UNNATI scheme, valued at ₹10,000 crore. These initiatives underscore his commitment to the region’s progress, blending governance with a deep appreciation for India’s natural heritage.
Through moments like these, PM Modi’s connection with nature and his endeavors to spotlight the importance of conservation efforts become evident, reminding us of the delicate coexistence between humanity and the natural world.
