The arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has stirred a political storm, with reactions pouring in from across the spectrum. Kejriwal, detained over his alleged involvement in the controversial Delhi liquor policy case, has triggered a series of reactions, particularly from the opposition.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) stands firmly behind its leader, dismissing any possibility of resignation. AAP convenor Gopal Rai criticized the BJP-led central government for orchestrating Kejriwal’s arrest and called for a nationwide protest.
Prominent voices from the opposition have echoed similar sentiments. Atishi, an AAP leader, pointed out the unprecedented nature of the arrest, labeling it as a political conspiracy by the BJP. She expressed concern for Kejriwal’s safety, given his Z security status, now under the custody of the central government.
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah accused the ruling party of exhibiting nervousness ahead of the general elections, deeming the arrest a “blot on democracy.” Conversely, BJP MP Manoj Tiwary celebrated the arrest, accusing Kejriwal of complicating the lives of Delhi’s residents.
BJP’s Harish Khurana argued that the law is simply taking its course, indicating that Kejriwal’s arrest was a legal necessity. Meanwhile, BRS working president K T Rama Rao slammed the arrest as unlawful, accusing the ED and CBI of being tools of oppression for the BJP.
As Delhi braces for AAP’s planned protest, the political discourse seems to be heading towards a heated debate, reflecting the polarized opinions on Kejriwal’s arrest. With the general elections looming, this event may significantly influence the political landscape and voter sentiment.
