The Central Regional Office, Office of the DC (Handicrafts), Lucknow, organized a crucial Regional Level Selection Committee Meeting for the Handicrafts Award-2023 on July 2, 2024, at DHS, Badlapur, Chandmari, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. The event was aimed at recognizing exceptional contributions made by artisans in the handicraft sector.
The committee, chaired by Sh. Umesh Singh, Joint Commissioner (Industries), Directorate of Industries, Varanasi, included esteemed members such as Sh. V.P. Thakur, Regional Director (H), Dr. Ujjawal Banerjee, Associate Professor at NIFT Raibareli, Dr. Neeraj Khanna of Nodi Exports INC, and Sh. Rohit Dhall of H.Lal International. Shri V. P. Thakur welcomed all committee members and explained the objectives and historical significance of the crafts.
How Does the Selection Process Work?
The main goal of the event was to select handcrafted products for the next qualifying round in various categories, leading up to the National Award, Shilp Guru, Design Innovation, and Startup Awards. The high-level committee, which includes senior government officials, representatives from NIFT and NID, renowned designers, and previous award winners, will finalize the nominations.
This year, 113 handcrafted products from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand were showcased, each reflecting unique skills, utility, and innovation. The committee members meticulously evaluated the products based on craftsmanship, historical significance, and overall quality.
