Delhi’s Leadership Takes a New Turn
After 26 years, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has reclaimed power in Delhi, securing a massive victory in the February 5 Assembly elections. Rekha Gupta, BJP’s MLA from Shalimar Bagh, has been announced as the next Chief Minister of Delhi, replacing AAP’s Atishi. Parvesh Verma, who stunned political circles by defeating Arvind Kejriwal in the New Delhi constituency, is expected to take the Deputy CM position.
The saffron party’s resurgence came with an overwhelming mandate, winning 48 out of 70 seats, while AAP managed to secure only 22 seats, suffering major defeats in key constituencies like Jangpura and New Delhi.

With the CM’s appointment finalized, a grand oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday at Ramlila Maidan. The event will witness the presence of top BJP leaders, chief ministers from BJP-ruled states, and prominent celebrities.
BJP’s Key Promises for Delhi
During its campaign, BJP promised a series of welfare initiatives aimed at different sections of society. Here are some of the highlights from their manifesto:
Women’s Welfare:
- ₹2,500 monthly assistance to poor women under Mahila Samriddhi Yojana.
- ₹21,000 assistance and six nutritional kits for every pregnant woman under Mukhya Mantri Matritva Suraksha Yojana.
- Subsidized LPG cylinders for ₹500 and one free cylinder on Holi & Diwali.
Healthcare & Senior Citizens:
- Implementation of Ayushman Bharat Yojana for free treatment up to ₹5 lakh, with an additional ₹5 lakh cover from the Delhi government.
- Free OPD and diagnostic services for senior citizens aged 70+.
- Increased pension for seniors (₹2,500 for 60-70 years, ₹3,000 for 70+), widows, and disabled individuals.
Education & Youth Empowerment:
- Free KG to PG education in government institutions for poor students.
- ₹15,000 one-time assistance for youth preparing for competitive exams, along with travel and application fee reimbursement for two attempts.
- Monthly stipend of ₹1,000 for SC students pursuing technical/vocational courses.
Employment & Social Security:
- Welfare Boards for auto drivers, taxi drivers, and domestic workers, providing life insurance, accident insurance, and scholarships for children.
- Paid maternity leave of 6 months for domestic workers.
- Doubling the number of street vendors benefiting from the PM SVANidhi scheme.
Environment & Infrastructure:
- A pollution-free Delhi with a focus on cleaning the Yamuna River.
- Improved coordination with neighboring states and MCD to solve traffic, electricity, and water issues.

With BJP back in power after 26 years, Delhi’s political landscape is set for a significant shift. The party has assured that it will continue existing schemes but eliminate corruption within them. While AAP’s governance focused on free electricity, water, and education reforms, BJP is aiming for a broader welfare agenda, including healthcare, women’s financial aid, and employment support.
