Thousands of users across India are unable to make UPI payments due to a major outage.
Popular apps like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm have been hit, along with banking services from SBI, HDFC, ICICI, and more.
The disruption has sparked concerns as UPI has become a vital part of daily transactions in India.
Why is UPI Down and Who is Affected?
On the evening of March 24, users across India began experiencing issues with UPI transactions. According to DownDetector, over 3,100 complaints were registered about the outage by 8:11 PM. Payment services on popular platforms like Google Pay, PhonePe, and Paytm were disrupted, along with UPI services offered by major banks such as SBI, HDFC, ICICI, Axis Bank, and Kotak Mahindra.
Users took to social media to express their frustration as digital transactions came to a halt. For a country where UPI payments have largely replaced cash transactions, especially in urban areas, this outage is proving to be a major inconvenience. With over 16.99 billion transactions recorded in January alone, any prolonged disruption could cause significant problems for businesses and individuals alike.
When Will UPI Be Fixed?
As of now, there is no official confirmation on when the issue will be resolved. However, experts believe that technical teams are working to restore services as quickly as possible. In the meantime, users are advised to keep alternative payment options like debit/credit cards or cash ready for transactions.
This incident highlights India’s deep reliance on digital payments and raises concerns about the need for a more resilient system to avoid such disruptions in the future. Stay tuned for updates as the situation unfolds!
