Massive Rescue Efforts Underway After Uttarkashi Cloudburst
A sudden cloudburst near Dharali, close to Harsil in Uttarakhand, has led to severe flash floods and landslides, leaving a trail of destruction. The Indian Army swiftly launched a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) operation, working alongside the NDRF, ITBP, SDRF, and local authorities to evacuate stranded residents.
So far, more than 190 people have been rescued from the affected areas, with relief teams battling adverse weather conditions to reach remote villages.
CM Dhami Takes Charge of Relief Operations
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster-hit region on Wednesday, assessing rescue efforts and meeting affected families. He later held an emergency meeting with NDRF and ITBP officials at his Uttarkashi camp office to streamline operations.
In a statement, the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) confirmed that both state and central agencies are working on a “war footing” to provide aid. Despite logistical hurdles, Dhami ensured the air-dropping of essential supplies via helicopters and directed officials to expedite relief distribution.
PM Modi Pledges Full Support
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with CM Dhami to assess the situation and assured all possible assistance from the Centre. The central government has deployed two Chinook and two MI-17 helicopters from Chandigarh, Sarsawa, and Agra to assist in rescue and infrastructure restoration.
Medical Preparedness & Road Restoration
The state health department has reserved beds at Doon Medical College, Coronation Hospital, and AIIMS Rishikesh for the injured. Meanwhile, heavy machinery is being transported to reconnect damaged roads, a critical step in restoring normalcy.
As rescue operations continue, authorities remain on high alert, prioritizing the safety of residents and swift rehabilitation of the affected zones.
