What Happened During the Lok Sabha Session?

On Wednesday, the BJP shared two videos highlighting contrasting behaviors of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during a Lok Sabha session. The first video shows Rahul Gandhi instructing Opposition members to protest during PM Modi’s Motion of Thanks debate. The second video captures PM Modi offering a glass of water to a protesting Opposition MP, who initially refused but another MP accepted and drank the water.

BJP’s Criticism and Social Media Reaction

BJP national spokesperson Shahzad Poonawalla criticized the INDIA bloc for their continuous disruption during the Prime Minister’s speech. He used the videos to draw a stark contrast between the conduct of Rahul Gandhi and PM Modi, questioning Gandhi’s suitability as Leader of the Opposition (LoP).

“Two contrasting pictures- Pic 1: LoP Rahul Gandhi himself encouraging MPs to break rules & jump in the well and disturb PM’s speech from the very beginning. Pic 2: PM Modi offers water even to a protesting MP who is heckling him. Who is the dictator? Does Rahul even deserve to be LoP?” Poonawalla tweeted.

What Do the Videos Show?

The first video depicts Rahul Gandhi gesturing to Opposition MPs to advance and protest in the House, resulting in some members entering the Well of the House and chanting slogans. In the second video, PM Modi is seen offering a glass of water to one of the protesting MPs. Although the MP initially declined, another Opposition member accepted the glass and drank the water, thanking the Prime Minister.

Political Implications

These contrasting visuals have intensified the political debate, with the BJP using the incident to portray PM Modi as a compassionate leader and Rahul Gandhi as disruptive. The videos are part of a broader narrative pushed by the BJP to question the leadership and conduct of the Congress party, particularly its leader Rahul Gandhi, in parliamentary proceedings.

As the political tussle continues, these incidents highlight the deepening divide and the contrasting strategies of the two major political figures in India. The BJP’s focus on these videos aims to reinforce their narrative of responsible leadership versus alleged opposition disruption.
