In a remarkable achievement, young cricket sensation Yashasvi Jaiswal etched his name into the annals of Indian cricket history by scoring over 600 runs in a single Test series. This milestone was reached on the second day of the fourth Test against England in Ranchi, making Jaiswal the fifth Indian cricketer to accomplish this feat.
Jaiswal, who debuted for India during their tour of the West Indies last year, hit this landmark in his seventh innings of the current five-match series against England. A single off Shoaib Bashir took him to an unbeaten 55, thereby surpassing the 600-run mark in the series.
The 22-year-old has been in exceptional form, recording two double centuries in the second and third Tests of the series. With this achievement, Jaiswal now stands alongside Indian cricket legends such as Sunil Gavaskar, Virat Kohli, Rahul Dravid, and Dilip Sardesai, who have all scored over 600 runs in a Test series.
Gavaskar, Kohli, and Dravid have each crossed the 600-run threshold twice in their illustrious careers, while Sardesai achieved this during a series in the West Indies in 1970-71. Gavaskar also holds the record for the most runs by an Indian in a Test series, with 774 runs during the 1970-71 series against the West Indies.
The global record for the most runs in a Test series is held by Australian legend Donald Bradman, who scored 974 runs against England in 1930. Jaiswal’s innings ended at 73 on the second day, further cementing his rising status in international cricket.
