A special community programme was organized at the Late Nandeshwar Deuri Khetra of Bahgora Adarsh Deuri Village under the Naoboisa Vidhan Sabha Constituency as part of preparations for the upcoming Deori Sahitya Sabha. The event was conducted with traditional observances and drew enthusiastic participation from residents, cultural representatives, and literary supporters of the Deori community.
Respected Deori priest fathers, members of the Deori Autonomous Council including Executive Councillors, the Member Secretary of the Deori Sahitya Sabha, and officials of the Reception Committee were present at the gathering. A large crowd attended the programme, with participants dressed in traditional Deori attire. The scene reflected unity, cultural pride, and a shared commitment to safeguarding the community’s identity.

The Deori Sahitya Sabha event was held in Bahgora Deori Gaon in Lakhimpur district, Assam, from 27 to 30 January 2026. The auspicious gathering brought together members of the Deori community for discussions, cultural exchanges, and activities centered on language and heritage. Visuals shared from the programme showed literary sessions, cultural presentations, and community interactions that are typical of Sahitya Sabha platforms.

The Deori Sahitya Sabha, also known as Deori Chucheba Chengcha, is a non profit and non governmental literary and cultural organisation dedicated to promoting and preserving the Deori language. It regularly conducts seminars, workshops, and literary events across Assam while encouraging publications and cultural education to strengthen the roots of Deori heritage.

Speakers and participants highlighted the urgent need to preserve the Deori language, literature, and traditional knowledge systems. The Sabha is seen as a crucial platform where community members can exchange ideas, document oral history, and develop strategies to educate younger generations. Such efforts aim to create a lasting literary record and ensure that ritual practices and cultural traditions continue to thrive.

Community leaders stressed that systematic documentation of history, rituals, and linguistic traditions is essential for long term preservation. By bringing people together under a shared cultural mission, the Deori Sahitya Sabha continues to play a central role in shaping the intellectual and cultural future of the community.
Theme Pavilion on Traditional Deori Textiles
As part of the Deori Sahitya Sabha programme, a dedicated Theme Pavilion will be set up to showcase traditional Deori textiles and textile based products. The pavilion will highlight indigenous designs, natural materials, and age old weaving techniques, offering visitors a close look at the artistic legacy of the community. The initiative aims to promote appreciation for traditional craftsmanship while encouraging cultural continuity.
Live Demonstration of Traditional Crafts
Live demonstration sessions will be organized to display traditional textile weaving, cane and bamboo craft making, and other indigenous art forms. These interactive programmes are expected to attract craft lovers, researchers, students, and the general public, creating greater awareness about the skill, effort, and cultural value behind Deori handicrafts.
Promotion of Traditional Deori Cuisine
Specially arranged food stalls will serve authentic traditional Deori dishes during the event. The initiative seeks to promote the community’s culinary heritage and offer visitors an opportunity to experience traditional flavors alongside cultural and literary activities.

A series of seminar cum workshop programmes will be organized by inviting research scholars from reputed national and international institutions. These sessions will focus on developing a roadmap for the preservation and promotion of Deori crafts, culture, and traditions.
