- Dense fog prompts red alert in Delhi and severely restricts visibility in the region.
- Over 120 flights at IGI Airport have been canceled or diverted, with many more delayed.
- Travelers advised to check flight statuses and prepare for continued weather disruptions.
A heavy layer of dense fog has engulfed Delhi and the National Capital Region, prompting authorities to place the city under a red alert for low visibility. Roads, residential areas and transport hubs have been shrouded in thick fog, making travel difficult for commuters and motorists alike.
The severe weather has had a significant impact on air travel at the city’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, where visibility dropped to dangerously low levels early on Monday. Airport operations were forced to run under low-visibility protocols, and as a result, more than 120 flights were canceled and several others diverted to alternate airports. In addition, hundreds of departures and arrivals have experienced delays, stranding passengers and causing widespread disruption.
Airport officials, along with major airlines, have issued travel advisories urging flyers to verify the status of their flights before heading to the airport. Passengers are being advised to allow extra time for check-in procedures and to stay updated through airline communication channels. The airport stressed that its ground staff is working closely with carriers to manage the situation and assist affected travelers.
Meteorologists predict that the dense fog is likely to persist into the coming days, especially during early morning hours when visibility is expected to remain low. This has increased concerns about continued interruptions to both air and surface transportation. With cold temperatures and high humidity amplifying the fog’s intensity, authorities are keeping a close watch on weather developments and may update advisories as conditions evolve.
Commuters in the Delhi-NCR region are also facing slow traffic on major roads due to poor visibility, and travelers have been encouraged to consider alternate plans where possible. With forecasts indicating that fog could linger through the week, authorities are calling on residents and visitors to exercise caution and plan ahead for travel disruptions.
