  • A death initially reported as a hit-and-run was later uncovered as a staged murder.
  • Autopsy showed assault marks inconsistent with a road accident.
  • Police arrested four, including the victim’s wife and her alleged lover.

What first appeared to be a tragic road accident near a village in Rajasthan has unravelled into a shocking case of murder and deception. On the evening of January 30, a newlywed couple was found lying by the roadside, suggesting that a speeding vehicle had hit them and attempted robbery had taken place.

Local police initially registered the incident as a hit-and-run case after the wife claimed that her husband, 27-year-old Ashish Kumar, was fatally struck by an unknown vehicle during a post-dinner walk. She told relatives and investigators that the assailant stole her gold earrings and fled the scene, leaving her unconscious beside her spouse.

However, suspicion grew when the post-mortem report revealed injuries inconsistent with a vehicular collision. Forensic findings showed that Ashish had been beaten extensively with sticks and strangled before his death, contradicting the narrative of a hit-and-run collision.

As the police dug deeper, investigators noted discrepancies in the widow’s statements. Subsequent questioning and evidence gathering laid bare a carefully plotted conspiracy. Authorities allege that Ashish’s 23-year-old wife, Anjali, was unhappy in her marriage and had returned to her parents’ home shortly after the wedding. During this period, she is believed to have reconnected with her former boyfriend, identified as 25-year-old Sanjay.

According to police statements, the pair conspired to kill Ashish and stage the scene as a roadside accident. On the night of the crime, Ashish and Anjali left their home for an evening walk. As planned, Sanjay and two friends hid nearby and ambushed the couple on an isolated stretch of road, attacking and killing Ashish with sticks.

To mislead investigators, Anjali allegedly handed over Ashish’s mobile phone and jewellery to her accomplices and feigned unconsciousness at the scene. Persistent questioning and forensic evidence eventually exposed the plot.

On February 3, police arrested four individuals in connection with the murder: Anjali, her alleged lover Sanjay, and his two unnamed associates. All four have been taken into custody as authorities build a case against them.
