Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honoured with the prestigious Speaker of the Knesset Medal by Israel’s Parliament during his official visit to Jerusalem on February 25, 2026. The award is considered the highest recognition granted by the Knesset and highlights Modi’s contribution towards enhancing bilateral relations between India and Israel.
The honour was presented by Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana following the Prime Minister’s address to the Israeli Parliament. With this recognition, Modi has become the first Indian leader to receive the medal, marking a historic moment in diplomatic ties between the two countries.
According to officials, the award acknowledges Modi’s exceptional personal leadership in strengthening strategic cooperation between India and Israel across sectors such as defence, innovation and economic collaboration. The visit is aimed at expanding partnership in areas including technology sharing, security cooperation and trade relations.
Notably, Modi is among the few global leaders to have received top civilian honours from both Israel and Palestine. In 2018, he was conferred the Grand Collar of the State of Palestine, reflecting India’s balanced diplomatic engagement in the West Asian region.
The Prime Minister’s address at the Knesset also focused on global cooperation against terrorism and the importance of dialogue for ensuring peace and stability. His visit is expected to further strengthen the growing strategic partnership between the two nations in the coming years.
