A noticeable earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale hit the Leh-Ladakh region on Monday, according to data released by seismic authorities. The tremor occurred just before noon, drawing attention across the sparsely populated Himalayan territory.
Seismologists reported that the quake’s epicenter was located near Leh at a depth of around 171 kilometres beneath the Earth’s surface. The depth classification suggests this was a deep-focus event, which typically results in fewer effects at ground level compared to shallower earthquakes.
