The core of the problem resides with the Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control System (A-SMGCS). This sophisticated system is the nerve center for ground movement at the airport, crucial for safely guiding aircraft on runways and taxiways, especially during low-visibility conditions. Its failure on Tuesday forced the airport to switch to manual procedures, drastically reducing the rate of take-offs and landings and creating a domino effect of delays across the country.
