Video recordings circulating online have ignited controversy by appearing to contradict claims from President Donald Trump and Homeland Security officials that the officer fired his weapon in self-defence.
According to footage shared widely on social media, the woman’s SUV was manoeuvring in a street as ICE agents approached. The vehicle does not clearly show any aggressive attempt to strike officers before shots were fired, and it subsequently crashed after the shooting. Local authorities and eyewitnesses suggest the viral video raises serious questions about the federal narrative.
The Trump administration has stood by its account, with the president stating the agent acted to protect himself and others, describing the incident as a violent encounter. Homeland Security leaders echoed this view, calling the driver’s actions threatening and justifying the use of lethal force.
City officials, however, have rejected the self-defence characterisation as inaccurate.
