- Ministry of External Affairs says it has not yet seen the video of Trump’s remark.
- MEA promises appropriate action once the video’s authenticity is verified.
- The original clip from last year attracted attention as tensions in India–US ties briefly rose.
New Delhi India’s government has weighed in after a video clip purportedly showing US President Donald Trump commenting on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s political career began circulating on social media.
At a regular press briefing, a spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs said the ministry had not yet seen the video in question and therefore could not immediately confirm what it showed. Officials emphasized that whether the clip is authentic or not, New Delhi will take appropriate action once it has been verified.
The comments follow renewed online interest in a recording from October last year in which Trump appeared to reference PM Modi’s political future during remarks at the White House. In that interaction, Trump praised Modi as a strong leader and was later quoted as saying he did not want to harm Modi’s political standing.
India and the United States have been navigating a complex diplomatic landscape in recent months, balancing trade negotiations and geopolitical issues. The resurfacing of the clip has triggered questions from reporters about bilateral relations, prompting the MEA to clarify its current stance.
MEA representatives reiterated that all media circulating online require careful review before the government can draw conclusions or respond publicly. Officials said they are monitoring the situation and will act as appropriate after examining the material’s validity.
