Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is set to arrive in India on February 26 as part of his Indo Pacific diplomatic tour that also includes Australia and Japan. The visit will include stops in Mumbai and New Delhi where he is scheduled to hold discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
This marks Carney’s first official trip to India since assuming office in 2025 and is being viewed as an important attempt to reset relations between the two countries after ties deteriorated during the diplomatic row linked to the killing of Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023. India has denied allegations made by the previous Canadian administration regarding its involvement in the case.
Officials from both sides are expected to discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation across several sectors including energy, artificial intelligence, technology and critical minerals. Expanding trade relations and exploring the possibility of deeper defence cooperation are also likely to be high on the agenda during the meetings in New Delhi.
