During his recent visit to Gujarat, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates was left in awe of the Statue of Unity, describing it as an “engineering marvel” and a fitting tribute to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. Gates expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the opportunity to visit the monument, highlighting its role in fostering economic opportunities for local tribal communities, particularly women.
Prime Minister Modi, responding to Gates’ appreciation, expressed his happiness and encouraged people worldwide to experience the grandeur of the world’s tallest statue. “Happy to see this! Glad that you enjoyed your experience at the ‘Statue of Unity.’ I also urge people from all over the world to visit it in the coming times,” PM Modi shared on social media platform X.
In addition to marveling at the statue, Gates engaged in discussions with Union Minister for IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, focusing on leveraging India’s AI ecosystem to enhance health, agriculture, and education sectors. Gates praised India’s digital public infrastructure as a model for emerging economies and expressed the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s eagerness to support Indian government initiatives aimed at building open, secure, and interoperable systems.
Bill Gates’ visit to India has been eventful, with meetings with top leaders and participation in cultural and local events, including the pre-wedding celebrations of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant in Jamnagar, Gujarat. His dialogue with Prime Minister Modi on utilizing artificial intelligence for public good further underscored their mutual commitment to leveraging technology for global betterment.
The highlight of Gates’ visit, however, was his interaction with Dolly Chaiwala in Hyderabad, where he experienced the unique preparation of Indian chai. The video of Gates requesting “One chai, please” and witnessing the tea-making process has captivated millions, showcasing the cultural richness and hospitality of India.
