Reliance Jio has implemented a significant price hike for its prepaid and postpaid plans, with increases ranging from 12 to 25 percent, effective July 3, 2024. Additionally, the entry-barrier for accessing free unlimited 5G data under the “Jio Welcome Offer” has been raised. Previously, users with 5G devices in active Jio True 5G cities could access the offer with a plan of Rs 239 or above. Now, the Rs 239 plan has increased by Rs 60 and no longer includes the unlimited 5G benefit. To access unlimited 5G data, customers must now choose higher-priced plans.

Impact on Users
The price hike and plan changes have disappointed many long-term users who relied on the previously more affordable options. This move is part of a broader strategy by Jio and other telecom providers to enhance Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) and maintain profitability amid the rollout of new 5G services and infrastructure investments. Airtel and Vodafone Idea have also announced price hikes, effective from July 3 and July 4, respectively.
