The National Cricket Academy (NCA) head, VVS Laxman, will lead India’s men’s team as head coach for the upcoming four-match T20I series in South Africa, with Gautam Gambhir focused on preparing for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. Laxman, joined by bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule, batting coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar, and fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh, will oversee the Suryakumar Yadav-led squad.
The series, running from November 8 to 15 at venues like Kingsmead, Durban, and The Wanderers Stadium, Johannesburg, brings together a promising mix of experienced players and emerging talent, including Rinku Singh, Tilak Varma, Axar Patel, and Varun Chakaravarthy.
Sunil Gavaskar Raises Concerns Over Scheduling
Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar questioned the BCCI’s scheduling, emphasizing that the T20I series could overshadow India’s premier domestic tournament, the Ranji Trophy. Gavaskar expressed disappointment, noting that about 50 to 60 players would be absent for their state teams during the Ranji season.
