SOUTHERN INDIA BRACES FOR CYCLONE SENYAR AS IMD ISSUES HEAVY RAINFALL WARNINGS
NEW DELHI, India – The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has raised a significant weather alarm, signaling the development of the season’s next cyclonic storm, to be named Cyclone Senyar. According to the latest forecasts, a climatic shift over the Arabian Sea is set to bring widespread disruption to several southern states in the coming days.
The brewing storm system is currently being tracked as a low-pressure area expected to form over the southeast Arabian Sea around October 21st. Meteorological models consistently show this system rapidly intensifying. It is likely to concentrate into a depression within the following 24 hours and subsequently strengthen into a cyclonic storm, Cyclone Senyar, as it moves along a west-northwesterly path.
In response to the impending weather system, the IMD has placed Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep on high alert. These regions are expected to witness light to moderate rainfall at most places, with heavy to very heavy downpours likely at isolated locations. The alert period is currently in effect from Saturday, October 21st, through Tuesday, October 24th.
Beyond torrential rain, the cyclonic formation is predicted to bring strong, gusty winds across the coastal areas. Squally weather, with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph and gusting to 60 kmph, is anticipated over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining areas, posing significant risks to maritime activities.
In light of these dangerous prospects, the IMD has issued an urgent advisory to fishermen. All fishing communities and individuals have been strongly cautioned against venturing into the southeast Arabian Sea and the adjoining central Arabian Sea from October 21st onwards. The sea conditions are forecast to be rough to very rough, making any maritime travel highly perilous.
As the situation develops, authorities in the alert states are closely monitoring the updates from the IMD. The potential formation of Cyclone Senyar underscores the volatile nature of the post-monsoon cyclonic season in the Indian Ocean. AlwaysFirst will continue to track this developing story and provide real-time updates to keep the public informed and safe.
