- Intelligence agencies warn of possible IED attack plot in Chandni Chowk area
- Temples near Red Fort may be potential targets
- Security tightened across high footfall zones in Delhi
Security agencies in Delhi have issued a high priority alert after receiving intelligence inputs about a possible terror plot linked to Lashkar-e-Taiba. According to reports, the suspected plan involves the use of an improvised explosive device in crowded areas located near the historic Red Fort.
Sources indicate that a temple situated in the Chandni Chowk locality could be among the potential targets of the planned attack. The warning has led authorities to increase vigilance in the area, which is known for its heavy footfall and religious significance. Security forces have reportedly stepped up monitoring efforts to prevent any untoward incident.
The alert comes months after a deadly car explosion that occurred near the Red Fort in November 2025. The blast killed at least 15 people and left more than 20 injured, with investigations later suggesting the involvement of explosive materials such as ammonium nitrate fuel oil.
Officials believe that the current intelligence input cannot be taken lightly given the history of past terror incidents in the national capital. Notably, the same militant group was responsible for the 2000 attack on the Red Fort which resulted in the deaths of security personnel and a civilian.
The latest warning has prompted Delhi Police and central security agencies to enhance surveillance around religious sites, crowded marketplaces, and other vulnerable locations in the city. Anti sabotage checks and additional deployments have been initiated as precautionary measures in response to the perceived threat.
Authorities have urged citizens to remain alert and cooperate with security personnel as efforts continue to ensure safety across key public spaces in the capital.
