  • Indian Railways withdraws two current Vande Bharat services due to reorganization.
  • A newly approved Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week between Udaipur and Asarwa (Ahmedabad).
  • The decision aims to revamp the semi-high speed train network and better serve passenger demand.

In a significant update to India’s semi-high speed train services, Indian Railways has discontinued two Vande Bharat Express routes and given the nod for a new service connecting Rajasthan with Gujarat. The Railway Board’s decision reflects a broader effort to optimize the rapidly expanding Vande Bharat network and enhance connectivity across key regions.

The two services that have been withdrawn were the Udaipur–Jaipur and Udaipur–Agra Cantt Vande Bharat Express trains. Officials indicated that the move was part of a restructuring plan to better align resources with passenger demand, although specific ridership figures were not publicly disclosed.

In place of these discontinued services, Indian Railways has approved a brand-new Vande Bharat Express that will run between Udaipur City in Rajasthan and Asarwa station near Ahmedabad in Gujarat. This train will operate six days a week and is expected to bolster regional connectivity between the two states. It is scheduled to halt at key stations including Zawar, Dungarpur, and Himmatnagar en route, facilitating easier travel for commuters and tourists alike.

The railway board’s announcement comes at a time when Vande Bharat trains continue to be a cornerstone of India’s modern rail vision, with the government regularly expanding and upgrading routes to meet rising travel demand. In recent developments, Indian Railways has also introduced sleeper variants and longer coach formations on some corridors to improve capacity and comfort for passengers.

Officials say the latest changes aim to reduce operational bottlenecks and strengthen the utility of premium trains in regions where demand is highest. The new Udaipur-Ahmedabad service, in particular, is seen as a strategic addition that links two cultural and economic hubs, offering faster travel with a semi-high speed service tailored for regional commuters.

Railway experts suggest that this approach of reassessing and reallocating services across India’s vast rail network could ensure optimal use of train sets and infrastructure. As the Vande Bharat fleet continues to grow, further adjustments and new route approvals are likely to follow to match evolving passenger needs.
