- Lok Sabha adjourned just as PM Modi was set to speak, ending the session for the day.
- Opposition MPs protested inside the House, blocking proceedings with slogans and demonstrations.
- No Prime Ministerial address delivered amid the uproar during the ongoing Budget Session.
New Delhi witnessed dramatic parliamentary scenes today as the Lok Sabha was adjourned shortly after it convened, preventing Prime Minister Narendra Modi from delivering a long-anticipated address. Lawmakers had gathered with the expectation that Modi would reply to the debate on the Motion of Thanks to the President’s Address, but the session dissolved into disorder within minutes.
Opposition members, including several women MPs, escalated protests inside the Lower House, entering the well and advancing toward the treasury benches where key government members are seated. Demonstrators raised slogans and unfurled banners while vociferously objecting to various parliamentary decisions, leading to significant interruptions.
The commotion was part of a broader confrontation that had been building throughout the session, triggered in part by earlier disputes over procedural rulings and the suspension of several Opposition MPs. When the House reconvened in the evening, the volatile atmosphere quickly returned, with members from multiple parties vocally challenging the government’s conduct.
As the protests intensified, the Speaker opted to adjourn the Lok Sabha for the day, effectively shelving the Prime Minister’s scheduled remarks. Government and Opposition figures traded sharp accusations over who was responsible for the breakdown in decorum, with tensions remaining high as the Budget Session continues.
With deliberations now paused, Parliament is set to reconvene on the next sitting day, where legislative business and further debate may resume once order is restored.
