Is NEET UG Counselling 2024 Delayed?
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is anticipated to start the counselling process for All India Quota (AIQ) undergraduate medical seats shortly. However, there has been no update on the MCC’s official website, mcc.nic.in, despite previous reports suggesting the schedule would be released by July 6th. This delay has left candidates and stakeholders eagerly awaiting further information.
Background:
The National Testing Agency (NTA) had previously informed the Supreme Court that NEET UG 2024 counselling would commence on July 6th, following the NEET re-test conducted on June 23 and results announced by June 30. Despite these preparations, the official counselling schedule has yet to be published.
Eligibility for NEET UG Counselling 2024:
To participate in NEET UG 2024 counselling, candidates must:
- Have qualified in the NEET UG 2024 exam.
- Secure a minimum percentile score, which varies based on the reservation categories (general, SC, ST, OBC).
- Meet the academic criteria, including marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as core subjects in Class XII.
Centre’s Affidavit Against Cancellation:
On Friday, the Centre filed an affidavit with the Supreme Court, opposing the cancellation of the entire NEET UG 2024 exam held on May 5th. The Centre argued that there was no evidence of a ‘large-scale’ breach of confidentiality and that scrapping the exam would harm the efforts of honest candidates. The affidavit emphasized the government’s commitment to conducting examinations fairly and transparently, while also calling for strict action against those found guilty of breaching confidentiality.
The government stressed the importance of balancing the rights of the majority of students who did not engage in unfair practices. “Scrapping the exam in entirety would seriously jeopardise the lakhs of honest candidates who attempted the question paper in 2024,” the affidavit stated.
What’s Next?
As candidates await the official NEET UG 2024 counselling schedule, the outcome of the Supreme Court hearing and the Centre’s affidavit will play a crucial role in determining the next steps. The MCC is expected to release the detailed notification soon, providing clarity on the commencement of the counselling process.
For updates and further information, candidates are advised to regularly check the official MCC website at mcc.nic.in.
