The Pakistan national cricket team delivered a commanding batting performance to post 212 for 8 against the Sri Lanka national cricket team in their crucial Super Eight clash of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on Saturday.
Invited to bat first after Sri Lanka opted to field, Pakistan openers dominated proceedings from the start. Opener Sahibzada Farhan played a sensational innings and reached a memorable century, while his partner Fakhar Zaman provided aggressive support with a quickfire 84 runs. The duo stitched together a massive 176 run opening partnership, setting a new record stand in the history of the T20 World Cup.
Pakistan appeared on course for an even bigger total during the middle overs, but Sri Lanka made a strong comeback in the death overs to restrict the flow of runs. Bowlers including Dilshan Madushanka and captain Dasun Shanaka picked up crucial wickets towards the end to limit Pakistan to 212 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.
Despite putting up a strong total on the board, Pakistan’s qualification hopes remain dependent on the margin of victory. To move ahead of New Zealand on net run rate and secure a place in the semifinals, Pakistan need to bowl Sri Lanka out for 147 runs or fewer in the second innings.
With Sri Lanka already eliminated from semifinal contention, the match holds significant importance for Pakistan as they look to keep their campaign alive in the tournament.
