- Lok Sabha may revoke the suspension of eight Opposition MPs on Tuesday.
- Seven Congress MPs and one CPI(M) member were suspended for alleged unruly conduct.
- The move follows discussions between parties to restore normal functioning of Parliament.
The suspension of eight Opposition Members of Parliament from the Lok Sabha is expected to be revoked on Tuesday, according to parliamentary sources. The development comes after discussions chaired by Speaker Om Birla, signaling a possible attempt to reduce tensions during the ongoing Budget Session.
The MPs were suspended during the first phase of the Budget Session following allegations of unruly conduct in the House. The group included seven members from the Congress party and one MP from the CPI(M). The suspension was originally imposed for the remainder of the session, which is scheduled to conclude on April 2.
The suspended lawmakers reportedly include Manickam Tagore, Kiran Kumar Reddy, Prashant Padole, Hibi Eden, Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, Gurjeet Aujla, S Venkat Raman, and Dean Kuriakose. The action was taken after disruptions inside the Lok Sabha, where MPs allegedly tore papers and threw them towards the Chair during heated proceedings.
Opposition parties had strongly protested the decision, arguing that suspending members for the entire session was excessive and undermined democratic debate. Leaders from several parties had appealed to the Speaker and the government to review the move and allow the MPs to return to the House.
According to reports, a recent all party meeting helped break the deadlock. There appears to be a growing consensus among political parties to revoke the suspension and ensure smoother parliamentary proceedings in the remaining days of the Budget Session.
If the suspension is formally lifted, the eight MPs could resume participation in parliamentary debates and discussions immediately. The decision is expected to ease tensions between the government and the opposition as Parliament continues with key legislative business in the coming days.
